Most authorities agree that the sandwich originated in the 18th century when John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, ordered something to tide him over during a hot and heavy session at the gaming table. The sandwiches served up at the Ithaca Bakery and Collegetown Bagel stores have come a long way since then. Truly inspired, they range from the noble purity of a classic ham and cheese on artisan rye bread to the fresh and intricate originality of a marinated Portobello mushroom dressed with aioli and sliced vegetables.
Utilizing adventurous greens, special spreads, exceptional cheeses, these are “masterpieces of the sandwich architect's skill,” each one an experience in itself. Please call 273-2890 ext. 2 for daily sandwich and soup specials. But if you know just what you want and we don't have it, feel free to fine-tune or start from scratch. Any sandwich you can imagine can be made to order, delivered if you like, and, most of all, enjoyed!
